NAP-55A Catalytic (Pellistor) Flammable Gas Sensor
General Description:
The Nemoto NAP55A is a catalytic (pellistor) type flammable gas sensor supplied as a matched pair of catalytic elements mounted on a single header enclosed in a plastic housing and protected by a metal mesh. Designed as a gas sensor for general use in a wide range of flammable / explosive gas detectors, the sensor detects and measures the presence of flammable gases and vapours in air, in the range 0-50% of the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) of the gas or vapour being measured.
The highly advanced and efficient production techniques developed by Nemoto means that the cost of technically superior pellistor technology, usually reserved for Industrial Applications, is now appropriately low enough for them to be used for domestic gas detectors, which have hitherto tended to use less expensive, but less stable and less selective semiconductor type gas sensors.
There is a variant of this sensor, the NAP-50A, which is identical in performance, but is slightly modified to reduce the effect of potential cross sensitive gases likely to be encountered in domestic premises, particularly Ethanol, in compliance with the European standard for domestic methane / natural gas detectors, EN 50194.
The NAP-55A should therefore be used where maximum sensitivity to all flammable gases is required, whereas the NAP-50A should be selected if high sensitivity to natural gas or LPG only is required, and the lowest cross sensitivity to other flammable gases and vapours is desirable.
