Sensors for the Detection of Incomplete Combustion in Water Heating Boiler Flues

Nemoto’s NAP-78A and NAP-79A catalytic sensors are designed to be fitted to the Exhaust Stacks of water heating boilers to give a warning of dangerous combustion conditions resulting from (for example) a blockage in either the exhaust or inlet stages of the boilers’ flue. Such conditions result in dangerously high levels of Carbon Monoxide in the exhaust line, which is automatically detected by the sensor, enabling a safety shutdown of the boiler, ensuring that the user remains safe from such faults.

Widely used by Japanese boiler manufacturers for many years, recent changes in the European Standard for water heating boilers, EN 483, is resulting in wider acceptance of these devices as an essential safety feature in Water Heating Boilers.

Designed specifically to work reliably within the flue itself for many years,  the sensor operates in temperatures up to 260 deg C

Recommended Bridge Voltage

2.0V +/-  0.05V

Zero shift between 23O°C and 200°C

< +/- 1mV

Typical Output Sensitivity

At 23°C:

6mV +/- 1mV

At 160°C:

4.8mV+/-0.8mV

Linearity

Linear to 2% CO

Current Consumption

< 200 mA @ 2.0V

Response Time (Measured as T90 for a step

change from Air to 1000ppm CO / 500ppm H2)

<60 seconds

Expected Lifetime in the field

Over 10 Years

Similar to the NAP-78A, but a less expensive option for those companies wishing to set up their own circuitry arrangements and calibration. Full details of how the use the device is given in the Technical documents (links below)

NAP-78A

Incomplete combustion sensor - Complete pre-calibrated Module

The NAP-78A is a complete module which comprises the catalytic sensor (fitted to the flue) and a separate circuit (fitted in the appliance cabinet) which gives a pre-calibrated zero point - effectively a “Plug and Play” sensor.

NAP-79A

Incomplete Combustion sensor - Sensor only
